Carlo Ancelotti Sacked by Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have shown Carlo Ancelotti the door following Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The Italian coach, who won the Bundesliga title last season with the German team was hired in place of Pep Guardiola who now lives in Manchester coaching the blue side in north-west England.

“The performance of our team since the start of the season did not meet the expectations we put on them,” said chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “The game in Paris clearly showed that we had to draw consequences.”

The defeat at the Parc des Princes was the club’s biggest defeat in the Champions League group stages for 21 years. It didn’t look much like the Bayern Munich of old.

Ancelotti’s assistant Willy Sagnol, former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel and Hoffenheim’s Julian Nagelsmann are in the running to step in. Sagnol will be taking temporary charge for the Hertha Berlin game on Sunday.

Bayern have lost Hoffenheim this season and drew at home with a 2-2 result at home to Wolfsburg.

Speaking after the defeat to the Parisien side, Ancelotti had conceded that his side had been slow to start following Dani Alves’s goal in the 2nd minute.

Arjen Robben has been spreading stories that all was not rosy in the Bayern camp. He refused to back his manager. There’s no need to now.
